Credit Awarded for Corporate Training,
Examinations & Certifications, and Apprenticeship Programs
Description
Florida Community College students may request
an evaluation of educational experiences in certain non-college
sponsored programs or for industry-recognized certifications or
licensure by submitting to any Enrollment Services Office the
appropriate American
Council on Education (ACE) or National
Program on Non-college Sponsored Instruction (National PONSI)
documents. Students must be registered with ACE to request a transcript
from ACE, and the institution from which the experience was gained
must also be registered with ACE. Credit for such educational
experiences will be granted in accordance with the recommendations
of the ACE
and National
PONSI when applicable to the student's program of study.
Official ACE
transcripts or National
PONSI documents shall be forwarded to the Accelerated College
Office, Urban Resource Center by campus mail.
Purpose
This section outlines the policy and procedures
for awarding college credit for "non-college-sponsored training"
(training that is provided by organizations other than a college
or university), including industry-sponsored training, examiniations
and certifications, and apprenticeship programs.
1. In many cases, credit
recommendations are specified in the American Council on Education's
(ACE) National
Guide to Educational Credit for Training Programs, National Guide
to Credit for Credentials and Certification, the National Program
on Noncollege Sponsored Instruction's (National
PONSI) College Credit Recommendations, or other nationally
recognized document. The credit evaluator may choose to award
more or less credit than is recommended by this Guide based on
his or her evaluation of the course content and competencies.
2. The designated credit evaluator for Florida
Community Colleges Accelerated College will review the content
of the appropriate ACE
or National
PONSI document and compare the ACE
or National
PONSI recommended credits to our course dictionary
to determine course equivalencies. In most cases, the credit recommendations
on the ACE
transcript or National
PONSI document will mirror the recommendations given in ACE's
National Guide to Educational Credit for Training Programs, National
Guide to Credit for Credentials and Certification, or National
PONSI's College Credit Recommendations. The credit evaluator may
choose to award more or less credit than is recommended by these
guides based on his or her evaluation of the course content and
competencies.
3. The Accelerated College designated credit
evaluator will complete the process of awarding corporate credit
by entering the data into the Student Management System (ORION)
and then forwarding the appropriate documents to the Enrollment
Services Office at the Martin Center for imaging. The appropriate
ACE or National
PONSI documentation meets the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requirements for
the award of credit for non-college-sponsored training and certification.
4. The College Registrar and the Executive Director
of Military Programs and Corporate College will supervise the
actions of the Accelerated College designated credit evaluator
and ensure that the appropriate documents are forwarded to the
Registrar's office.
5. The evaluated ACE
transcripts or National
PONSI documents will be maintained in the Registrar's
Office.
6. Prior to credit being awarded, the student
must have met all entrance
requirements, selected a program
of study, and paid any required fees.
7. Upon completion of these requirements and
the receipt of the appropriate ACE
transcripts or National
PONSI documents, the evaluation process will commence.
8. To be awarded a degree from Florida Community
College, students must complete at least 25 percent of their degree
coursework at Florida Community College. Additional credits may
be transfer credit.
9. The opportunity to receive credit for
non-college-sponsored training and certification will be publicized
in program fact sheets, the college catalog, and other materials
available to workforce deans, advisers, counselors, and students.
Currently, there is no charge for evaluation
of ACE
transcripts or National
PONSI documents and/or programs.
